In the past month, devastating fires have swept through multiple settlements in Sunsari district, leaving over 55 homes in ruins and displacing dozens of the most vulnerable families. In the Musahar settlement alone, 26 houses belonging to Muslim community members were consumed by flames. Days later, a short circuit in Bengali Tole of Harinagar Rural Municipality-5 gutted 29 houses across 12 families. Simultaneously, Dalit households in Bhotya Tole (Lahan Municipality Ward 12) lost everything—their homes, cash, clothing, cooking utensils, and food supplies—to an overnight blaze. Responding swiftly, Helpling Hurt Nepal has mobilized one-month relief packages and rent-ware support for affected families.
Bengali Tole Inferno: 29 Houses Burnt
In Harinagar Rural Municipality-5, an electrical short circuit ignited a fire on March 31, 2025, that obliterated 29 houses belonging to twelve families. Superintendant of Police Suman Timsina reported that furniture, clothing, jewelry, and food stocks were all lost to the flames.
Lahan Municipality Ward 12: Dalit Families Devastated
In Bhotya Tole, Lahan Municipality Ward 12, an equally ferocious blaze razed the homes of Dalit Musahar families, consuming cash, clothing, cooking pots, and several days’ worth of rations. With nowhere to turn, victims are now living in makeshift tarpaulin shelters under open skies.
Helpling Heart Nepal has pledged comprehensive relief—one month’s food, emergency cash assistance, and rental cooking-ware kits—to every displaced family in Harinaager and Lahan. This includes pots, pans, utensils, and basic kitchen sets to help victims regain a semblance of normalcy.
Voices from the Ashes
“In minutes, we lost our home and all our possessions. The relief from Helpling Hurt Nepal is a lifeline—we can at least cook a hot meal for our children again.”
— A displaced mother from Bhotya Tole
“Our community is shattered, but we stand ready to rebuild—together. Every meal we share reminds us that hope still burns brighter than any flame.”
— Superintendent Suman Timsina, Sunsari DPO
