KARJANHA, Siraha
A new Education Support & Awareness campaign by Helping Heart Nepal (HHN) is making strides in Karjanha Municipality by encouraging out-of-school children to return to class. Karjanha (pop. 38,557) has a literacy rate of 61.79%, yet many families still struggle with school expenses. In Siraha District at large, only about 51.15% of people were literate as of 2011 and some 1,595 children of school age remained out of school. HHN’s program addresses this gap through community workshops, free distribution of textbooks and uniforms, and assistance to needy students.
“This campaign is about giving every child a chance,” said Md. Jiyauddin, Chairman of Helping Heart Nepal. He emphasized that “education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world”, underlining HHN’s belief that learning unlocks opportunity. During the program launch, HHN volunteers worked with school officials to identify children who had dropped out and brought them into community tutoring sessions. In one village meeting, a teenage girl beamed as she received a notebook and pen, saying, “Now I can attend class and study like my friends.” Local teachers report early gains: attendance in partner schools has risen since the campaign began, and many parents express gratitude for the support.
So far, HHN has provided educational materials to dozens of students and is arranging small scholarships for the most disadvantaged youth. Community members, including ward officials and school principals, have praised the program. One Karjanha municipal official commented that the awareness efforts are “complementing government efforts to achieve universal education.”
Helping Heart Nepal now calls on donors and volunteers to expand the initiative. The organization encourages supporters to visit its website for information on how to contribute to education projects. By sustaining this momentum, HHN aims to help Karjanha’s children build a brighter future.
We invite our donors and partners to join this mission. Your contribution is more than a donation; it is a life-saving intervention. A small gift can provide the warmth that saves a child’s life tonight or the food that sustains a family through the frost.
