Helping Heart Nepal Delivers Critical Aid to Flood Victims in Sunsari

HARINAGAR MUNICIPALITY, Sunsari:  In response to devastating floods that submerged large areas of Harinagar Municipality in early October, Helping Heart Nepal (HHN) has provided immediate relief to hundreds of affected families.

The disaster, caused by the Koshi River breaching its embankments, impacted over 1,200 households, completely submerged 450 homes, and destroyed 300 hectares of crops, leaving thousands stranded without shelter, food, or clean water.

HHN mobilized its emergency response team on October 6 and 11, 2025, coordinating closely with the Harinagar Municipality Office and Ward Disaster Response Committee. The team successfully reached isolated settlements in the hardest-hit areas, including Ward No. 07, distributing vital food packages, clean water, and essential non-food items.

The relief operation was conducted in close coordination with Ward Chairman Mr. Mujjamil Khan, municipal representatives, and local volunteers to ensure transparent and efficient distribution. Chairman Khan remarked:

“The flood has left our community shattered — homes washed away, crops ruined, and families sleeping under open skies. In such a desperate time, Helping Heart Nepal reached us first with food, water, and shelter. Their quick response and partnership have brought real hope to hundreds of people.”

Mr. Meraj Khan, General Secretary of Helping Heart Nepal, reflected on the effort:

“Reaching Harinagar was extremely challenging due to blocked roads and deep floodwaters, but our team knew the urgency. We worked hand in hand with the municipality and local youths to make sure no one was left behind. This response shows what unity and compassion can achieve even in the toughest times. We are deeply thankful to our donors and partners whose support made this mission possible.”

Among the many survivors, Sabitri Devi, a mother of three, recounted how she and her children were rescued after spending two nights on a bamboo raft:

“We lost everything — our home, our livestock, our harvest. When HHN came with food and shelter kits, it felt like life had returned. My children finally slept under a dry roof.”

Similarly, Rahim Ansari, a farmer from Ward-07, shared:

“All my fields are gone, but we are alive. The team gave us food and medicine when no one else could reach. I will always remember this help.”

Helping Heart Nepal remains committed to long-term recovery efforts, including rehabilitation and livelihood restoration for the affected communities.
