Hope Flows in Drought-Hit Madhesh: Clean Water Reaches Thousands Through HHN Project

Hope Flows in Drought-Hit Madhesh: Clean Water Reaches Thousands Through HHN Project

Siraha, Madhesh Province: As Nepal declares Madhesh Province a Disaster Crisis Zone due to the ongoing severe drought, Helping Heart Nepal, with generous financial support from Helping Hand USA, has brought a beacon of hope through clean water.

In a critical response to the escalating water crisis, Helping Heart Nepal has successfully installed Bio-Sand Water Filter with Community Hand Pump Plants at two public schools: Shree Janta Basic School, Lalpur and Shree Jansamuh Primary School, Gurudham, Golbazar Municipality. This life-saving initiative now provides safe and clean drinking water to thousands of students, teachers, and nearby community members.

  • Tested and Trusted: The water meets both WHO and Government of Nepal standards, verified by a certified government laboratory.
  • Inclusive Design: The system is designed for children, gender, and differently-abled individuals, ensuring no one is left behind.
  • Immediate Relief & Long-Term Resilience: Amid threats to agriculture, health, and daily life, this project addresses urgent needs while supporting sustainable, community-level resilience.

Hygiene & Dignity Go Hand-in-Hand

To complement this, Helping Heart Nepal is launching a WASH program at the schools — including sanitation and hygiene awareness campaigns, hygiene kit distribution, and community engagement activities to promote lasting behavior change.

"This initiative turns crisis into opportunity — protecting the health, dignity, and future of Madhesh’s most vulnerable," Md. Meraj Khan, General Secretary, Helping Heart Nepal.
