Fire destroys 150 homes in Mahottari

As many as 150 fire affected families of Muslim settlement in Matihani-6 are awaiting relief. They are surviving a helpless state of life in absence of immediate relief.

On Wednesday, April 4, 2024, a devastating fire swept through Matihani Municipality-06 of Mahottari, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Hundreds of homes were engulfed by the wind-fueled flames, resulting in tragic losses including the lives of a young child and numerous livestock. The impact of the fire was profound, affecting over 150 families and displacing 130 houses and belongings burn and become ashes. Amidst the chaos, thousands of individuals found themselves in dire need of basic necessities such as food, water, clothing, and shelter. Battling against fierce winds, firefighters worked tirelessly for 8 hours, deploying 20 fire engines to bring the inferno under control. Despite the ongoing challenges, efforts led by the District Administration Office are underway to gather and distribute vital relief supplies to the affected families, addressing their urgent needs and providing support during this difficult time.

The families had gone through a painful situation after a fire gutted 150 houses in their settlement on Wednesday.

The fire victims could not salvage food grains, clothes and other belongings as the fire engulfed the clustered settlement in no time. Property worth approximately Rs 5.4 million is estimated to have been destroyed in the incident, according to police.
